today [Jan. 3rd, 2009|09:06 pm]
Mom
Started out really interesting. Stepped in cold dog poop barefooted at 7:30 this morning. Yeah me. It did get better when we got the blueberry bushes planted. A friend had given us eight of them and they are budding out already. Then it really got interesting. Not being interested in the bowl games since my team did not show up for the game, I decided to go in the attic and get the boxes down so I could finish putting Christmas decorations away. Somehow and I have no idea how, I managed to miss the plywood and go through the ceiling. Fortunately, I got caught by an electrical cable and did not land in the bedroom. Had to pull my large self up out of the hole. Getting sorer by the minute. Wish me luck the rest of the weekend.

weekend [Jun. 29th, 2008|09:10 pm]
Mom
Son and two youngest children came up for the fireworks. Daughter and four legged child also came up for the weekend. The local bank has a Homecoming concert and firesworks the Friday before the 4th. We went to a local school so that we could eat with our Sunday school class and watch the fireworks. The children got to play on the playground. We were close enough to see the fireworks without being in the thousands of people . The grandson is so much like my daugher. She always hated loud noises and so does he. When asked if he would like to be closer to the noise, he said no thank you. My children actually got to spend some time together talking. I look back on their childhoods and I am glad they like each other now. It was iffy there for a while! Son is experincing some physical problems. Seems he is really kin to his father and grandfather. (The orange from the pills will wash out and not stain.) We went back to our house so son the comptuter genius could fix my computer. Of course, it would not "break" until he got at east 10 minutes away. Maybe next time. They went home since he had something to do early Saturday.

Daughter and I went to Biltmore for the afternoon. I always enjoy spending time with her. The grounds were beautiful. We did not go in the house this time. Everytime we did go into a place it would rain a little. We never did get wet. The day was just beautiful and the company good.

Husband and I went to early church at our regular church. Sermon on three points on Love and service. Husband, Daughter and I went to church with a friend who was preaching his first sermon at his new church. Sermon was Love and service. Had church coverd dish dinner with them. Always goooood food there. Daughter and spent some time at our usual haunts when she is up here. We always go to Fred's and buy something. We also drove up to look at a house that I would like to buy since our neighborhood is being taken over by tacky. Unfortunately, they probably won't take what I can afford. Nice house though. Daughter and granddog went home and we went to yet another church service. Guess what three points on Love and Service. Came home and watched a church service to hear the music, which we loved. The scripture was the same and yet another sermon on Love and Service.

Actually a good weekend. I missed my daughter in law and the oldest grand but it was nice to have the others.

They say things come in threes. It is true again with our family. My friend Nancy died of a brain tumor: my friend Mary died of a brain tumor and my best friend in Alabama's mother died yesterday. My friends and I are just about out of parents. Makes you think of your own mortality. No matter how young you are and the fact that your parents were over 20 years older than you are now when they died, it dawns on you that you are next.
It is a reminder tht life is to be lived daily not in the future. You can certainly plan for the future and you should but remember to love the people in your life today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME [Nov. 11th, 2007|01:38 pm]
Mom

I have a birthday on Wednesday. I will be "38" this year. Never mind that my children are older than that. Don't ask middle grand actual age, she will tell you loudly and emphatically. Although it isn't here yet, I have had a good birthday already. Daughter and husband gave me things (people and houses) to go with my Williamsburg Village. Son took husband and me to a Renn Fest in Charlotte. It was very nice. I started to call my friend she's precious and ask to borrow something to wear. If I go to the one in the spring with son and family, I just might do that. I do have the chest for it at least.
Husband and I spent a week in Virginia and except for getting the creeping yuckies while there, we had a good time. We always try to eat at one of the taverns in the historic district. This time we ate at Chowning's. It was really good and definitely different. The Jamestown area is celebrating their 400th year. They had redone a lot of the exhibitions and had interpreters everywhere. That was really nice. Of course, since Queen Elizabeth came in May it was really clean.
Went up to Stafford and saw the newest family member. He will be 1 on the 15th missed my birthday by a little over an hour. He is a doll. It was nice spending time with them. Husband had not met husband before and they got along well. We ate dinner and played with the baby a little.
I do wish I had been able to see the Georgia game. Daughter said the team in black was awesome. The AJC pictures are good. Really sorry about the Bama game but hopefully they played well anyway. Trying to be an alumni that doesn't expect miracles this year. Now if they can just beat that "other" school, that would be nice. I do like seeing Tubberville with out his smirk.
After two weeks, we think we are finally getting over whatever it was we had. Daughter is still coughing. If you see her, tell her Doctor on Monday. She isn't talking to anyone much. Not because she is mad she has lost her voice again.
I have gotten cards already for my "day". One from the father-in-law with a little check in it. One from the Dress Barn with a gift certificate to save if only I spend some. One from my stock broker and one from the company I retired from reminding me to get regular checkups and a colonoscopy every 3-5 years. Yeah, me.
Now to get the Christmas village things down and start on that. I love it set up but not setting it up so much. Come and see it sometime in December and January.

Mary Muffin [Oct. 22nd, 2007|08:54 pm]

My friend, Mary, died today a little after lunch. She worked in schools all her life. The children called her Mary Muffin since her last name was Guffin. She loved each one of them.
She discovered breast cancer two weeks before the birth of her first grandchild. She lived to see the birth of her second grandchild. She has battled courageously breast cancer two times, lung cancer, liver cancer and finally brain cancer.
Last week she was admitted to the Hospice unit near her home. My sister went over and Mary was drinking coffee and she didn't like coffee. When asked she said she thought she might as well taste it she had always liked the smell. Until yesterday,if you had gone to see her, her hair would have been fixed and her makeup in place.
She was the little Ole Matchmaker with her oldest daughter and my nephew. He taught at the school where she worked. She loved him like a son.
As you go about your days this week give this whole family a thought and a prayer if you do that. We will all miss her cheerful person and we know she is already having "prayer meetings" in heaven.
